Attracting entrepreneurs

The Tier 1 Entrepreneur visa is aimed at foreign businessmen (including high net worth individuals) wishing to pursue their business ambitions in the UK.

It is a popular route as it leads to settlement for both the applicants and their dependants with a further option of accelerated settlement within 3 years if certain conditions are met.

In order to qualify, applicants are required to demonstrate that they have access to at least £200,000 (or £50,000 in some instances) which they can use to establish, join or take over a UK registered company.

These funds can belong to the applicant or to any third parties (spouse/partner/investor) and must be held in a regulated financial institution. For those who are in discussions with securing funding, there is also a business visitor visa available to facilitate meetings held in the UK for that purpose.

For initial applications, applicants are required to submit the following:

  • a business plan

  • a criminal record certificate from any country the applicant has lived in for 12 months or more in the last 10 years

  • evidence of funds

  • evidence of English language proficiency

  • evidence to demonstrate that the applicant can financially maintain himself (and his dependents) whilst in the UK

If successful, applicants will be granted a visa for 3 years which can be extended for a further period of 2 years.
